Open Concept Design
Bam Strategy achieves open concept office with Foresight Hong Kong fixture
April 17, 2013
Bam Strategy, a digital marketing firm in Montreal, Quebec, recognized that their growing company needed more space. Their business model supported an open plan work environment that would foster collaboration and intense interaction among their staff of 30+. Bam management hired designer Wilbur Cheung of Cheung Design to come up with the new office design. The team quickly discovered that they weren't going to find the right space in Old Montreal, the site of their original offices. Instead they located the perfectspace in a commercial building at Jean-Talon near Decarie Boulevard in Montreal.
The open concept extended beyond just the wall and partition-free work space. The company also put an employee lounge and fitness center into the new design layout. The lighting design concept needed to provide high levels of illumination and an elegant look. Cheung and Bam went looking for a light fixture that was not bulky, but rather open like the space, with modern lines. "The light fixture we chose, the Foresight Hong Kong, has a modern look that really reflects the young, dynamic atmosphere of our company," comments Lonn Shulkin, CEO of Bam Strategy
Bigger space, less lights
Foresight Lighting's Hong Kong fixture offered the perfect combination of direct-indirect illumination as well as an open, elegant style. Foresight helped with the lighting layout to provide the right light levels and fixture spacing for all the functional areas of Bam's office layout. Ultimately the T5HO 54watt lamps were chosen to provide higher light levels and reduce the overall number of fixtures needed. "We're conscious of our impact on the environment, so energy efficiency and lamps that last longer, reducing chemical waste we a big part of our lighting decision," states Shulkin. In all, 96 Hong Kong 2-lamp 4-ft luminaires were specified and installed in Bam Strategy's new offices.
